I like to wear my hair up but
in this time of year it can get quite cold for the ears :) That's why I decided
to make myself a warm turban headband.
Skill
level: Easy
Abbreviations: ch – chain
hdc – half double
crochet
Pattern
note: Chain 2 at beginning of the row counts as first half
double crochet.
Row
1: Ch until it matches your head size.
Row
2: Ch 2, hdc in each of the remaining ch, turn.
Row
3 - ?: Repeat Row 2. Make as many rows as you wish but don't
forget that this is going to be only half of the width of your headband.
At the end of
the last row fasten off, leaving long end.
Finishing:
Here is a little video which will show you how to tie a headband.
Slowly take the headband off your head and
sew both ends together and upper and lower part of the headband.
And voilà, here is your turban headband :)
Have a nice week!
Anja
how many chains did you chain for your headband?
ReplyDeleteI did 75 with a 5mm hook.
DeleteHi BYorkStyles! I think I made 122 chains and I used 3mm crochet hook.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this pattern, I've been looking EVERYWHERE for this exact turban and this is perfect. The video is awesome too. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome RhinoJam! I hope it keeps you warm! :)
DeleteNo video????
DeleteDo you chain to go around your head once or twice?!
ReplyDeleteI think twice. I got confused too then I realized if I only did it once its not going to work.
DeleteI'm so confused! Any clarification for this pattern would be great!
DeleteThis is a wonderful pattern and headband. Thank you for sharing the pattern. Did you use 4 worsted weight yarn?
ReplyDeleteI am wondering what weight of yarn you used for this project. I am excited to try this pattern as looks exactly like what I have been searching for . I am new to the knitting and crocheting world so still need fairly straight forward projects.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your assistance with my questions,
Julie

I dont see the video
ReplyDeleteWhat type of yarn please?
ReplyDeletewhat size hook
ReplyDelete5.5
DeleteThe initial chain needs to wrap around your head TWICE, it should be simple from there!
ReplyDeleteCan't see the video
ReplyDeleteI can't view the video
ReplyDeleteLOVE this headband and I've been looking all over for a pattern like this, thank you! However, I can't get the video to play :( HELP!
ReplyDeleteOh! Just came on to my computer and the video played nicely...it wasn't working on my mobile. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHow did you sew the top and bottom piece together? I know you slip stitched the end together but how did you do the top and bottom? Thanks so much, love the pattern!
ReplyDeleteGreat pattern, I made it quite fast and it look pretty at first try ! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI used an H hook and chained 150.
ReplyDeleteHmmm video is not working on mobile or laptop????
ReplyDeleteH hook, chained 150 to start, 3 rows of hdc. Note: I marked chain number 75 before I started sewing the two halves together and started sewing from the center back whipstitching through each of the stitches; this ensured it was even stitching all the way around to the turban knot.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Your input was very helpful!
DeletePeace
Is anyone else having issues with slip stitch causing the headband to be to restricted. There's no give in the headband. I've tried both the slip stitch and needle, but if your making this for someone how do you know if it's going to fit without getting there measurements. Is there another way to connect the two sections?
ReplyDeleteYou could always use a button.
DeleteThe video works fine in Explorer, but not in Firefox. If you can't see it, try watching it in a different browser.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I accidentally sent 2 other comments before this one. Please respond to this one, I will be able to be notified you responded if you respond to this comment. My question is what size and type of yarn and crochet hook did you use?
ReplyDeleteHello, Happy New Year! I did not submit this pattern but I have used it successfully. I highly recommend www.yarn.com for their selection, quality, price and service. So far my favorite cotton yarn is:
DeleteCascade Yarns UltraPima, 100% Pima Cotton, 100grams / 3.5 oz. = 220 yards, 200 meters
Appropriate hooks are 3.5mm to 4.5mm
This particular yarn is Very Strong, Durable and Shiny. There are many colors to choose from.
However, you may choose ANY sport or worseted weight Cotton yarn.
I hope this is helpful information.
(Cascade's UltraPima Cotton must really be seen to be believed; when compared to all the local retail yarn available in my city... it's quality amazes me and the price for 100grams of Cascade is usually equal to 50grams of my local retail yarn! Enjoy!!)
Peace,
Julie Hart
I'm not sure what I did wrong. I did one row of sc, then 3 rows of hdc in each stitch. It came out all curly and not at all looking like the picture. It won't lay flat on my head. This is my first crochet project so any advice is welcome!
ReplyDeletejust check your tension in the chains, let them be a little loose
DeleteDo you make two peices, or one? because I dont know how you sew the entire back straight if its tisted in the back
ReplyDeleteI would like to make this, with two colors.. like one color on one side, and different on the other. Is there any special way I should go about doing this? Maybe at half on each row, switch colors? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI can't play the video. Are there written instructions on how to end this piece?
ReplyDeleteThank you
your instructions suck... you said to chain until it fits around the head...you need to clarify that the knot requires to be wrapped around the head TWICE.. now I have to start all over again... and btw to others reading this, the video can be seen once you hit the web version button at the bottom of the page....im highly upset I have to start this project all over again..
ReplyDeleteYou have probably given the best instructions. Although I still can't see the video no matter what I do, so I hope I can figure it out at the end. Sorry you had to start all over. Hope it worked out well for you.
DeleteA really wonderful pattern and headband. Thank you for sharing the pattern.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful pattern and Headband. I like it very much.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this great pattern! I made one for my daughter 5 years ago which she wears all the time and I just made another one for my granddaughter. I really appreciate your tutorial video for how to make the twist.
